There are many answers and I have chosen some of them

the coaches answer is really valid here : it depends.
on what? One of the biggest factor is the teams, the company and the scrum master.
If you have an experienced scrum master in a company with a lot of agile history and a few teams that have been doing that for a long time, that will work.
if you have a new scrum master, with a new teams, in a company that has just been starting agile. This won’t.

Scaling multiple teams in a corporation with no agile background to bulding a product is what SM and Agile Coaches do for living. It’s what i do.
Off course we have to coach multiple teams. And we have to do this fast, very fast.
This is the real world, not what you find in the books!

A SM works for the Scrum Team, removing impediments, facilitating meetings as necessary, coaching the team members, coaching the PO, promoting proper use of the Scrum framework, and providing transparency to the organization.
An Agile coach works for the organization, promoting agile transition in multiple teams and multiple projects to build multiple products, in a scaling scenario or not.
To the original question, Do I think a SM can work for more than one team? Sure, but there are risks and should also be lowered expectations. The risks are very large for immature teams such that the organisation probably won’t want to do it. It’s lower for mature teams and might be worth it for the organization. I think the linked article does speak pretty well to that. I also think more than two teams is probably a bad idea. Also, those two teams need to be at one location.
Hi Melinda: I believe that an SM can coach two teams but depends of the size of the team and the complexity of projects. Furthermore, if your company (or client if you are working as contractor) decides to work in three projects i.e what else can you do?
