A typical day of a Scrum Master in Agile Methodology

It is a question asked to me while looking for new opportunities as scrum master. In my perspective,

following can be part of a day of a Scrum master

1. facilitate Daily scrum
2. work and coordinate on the resolutions for the impediments reported
3. Facilitate collaborations on communications with various specialists/generalists.
4. Help team to understand values of being agile (continuous mentoring)
5. Work with Product owner on story breakup


6. Follow up on the attention specific needs.
7. manage the artifacts (if required)

I simplify complex things

I would summarize it like this:
Scrum Master each day has to coach a team and product owner to increase their understanding of agile. He should help them to become agile. He should remove (or help to remove) all obstacles which team faces.

This a guide as not all tasks apply in all contexts and some contexts have other tasks not listed. It is also good to keep in the mind the overall goals of a Scrum Master well summarized by @Sebastian so you don’t get caught up in “Doing Agile” instead of actually being agile. However when I hear, “won’t Scrum Masters get bored?”, I usually point them in this direction and say “are they doing all of the types of things in the list to help the team continuously improve?”

And, of course, there is the Scrum Guide which provides guidance in this area as well.

To sum up, help the team and Product Owner follow the Agile practices. Furthermore, Scrum Master has to learn more technically about the project so he can understand very well the issues and challenges of the team.

I am all about helping companies to adopt agile as methodology in Chile. Why? I believe many organizations think that agile is not for Chilean companies because of Chilean culture is totally different from i.e. USA culture but I worked with Chilean professionals who after using agile realized it is feasible to implement it. Agile works in small and large projects and there are many evidences which demonstrate this.
